Vintage Chic Wooden Bangle Bracelet

One of my favorite artists on etsy. com is Flor Larios. Her work is amazing. I often follow her new listings and to my delight I see she created a beautiful bangle out of unfinished wood. I am so curious to know how she made the bangle look so vintage. My investigation will start shortly and I will be sure and post a tutorial!

How to Decoupage/Paper Wrap an Unfinished Wood Bangle Bracelet

I love working with unfinished wood jewelry and doing-it-yourself allows endless possibilities. I have wrapped bangles with a plethora of different types of paper. These bangles can be created for any occasion or for something to compliment your wardrobe. The possibilities are endless. I have created bangles for baby showers, book releases, design stores, to resell at craft fairs, and for friends and family.  The bangles can bring you extra money or give you something fun to do with your kids!

What you will need:
Scissors
Wax paper
Paint brush
Empty water bottle or bowl
One Sheet of Decorative paper

You can purchase majority of the materials at any craft store.

Step: 1-Prepare Your Working Space:
Place a sheet of the wax paper under your working area because it can get messy. Put water in a water bottle or empty bowl to hold the paint brush. Organize the paper you are going to use. Depending on the size you will probably only need one sheet of paper.

Step: 2- Cutting the Paper:
Your goal is to cut the paper to perfectly fit around the bangle length wise. You do not want it to go over and have the paper visible at the top of the bangle. You pretty much want the paper to meet in the inner middle area of the bangle.

And, you will have to determine the width used. I normally cut ¼ of an inch and no wider than a ½ an inch. It all depends on the paper. This may take some trial and error. I prefer working with thicker paper. It is much more durable. I have found some of my best paper at Michael’s, Joanne’s or from ordering online. Or, I paint my own paper or embellish on purchased paper. The fancier the better!

Step: 3- Pasting (Modge Podging) the Paper to the Wood Bangle:
So, once you have measured your first piece of paper perfectly; dip your paint brush inside the modge podge and paint the cut-to-size paper to the bangle. I always cut and paste. I never pre-cut the paper because majority of the paper I use has a design to it. It’s easier to stay within the design this way. Do this until every section of the unfinished wood is covered. Add the modge podge to the side you want to “glue” to the bangle and press down. Continue cutting and pasting the pieces of paper until you have surrounded the entire unfinished wood bangle.

Step 4- Sealing the Bangle:
The last step is sealing the bangle with modge podge. Once you have completely pasted the paper over the entire bangle paint the modge podge to the outer and inner parts of the bangle. I typically paint the outside first and let it dry. And, then I do the inside. They normally take about an hour to dry.

Decoupage an unfinished wood bangle can take up to an hour or two if you include drying time. Again, the possibilities are endless. It is another way to make extra money, add additions to your wardrobe, relax, or spend time with your children!
